Christmas At Kaulanapueo Church

We attended a wonderful Christmas service today at the Kaulanapueo Church in Huelo, Maui. The church is over 150 years old and built of coral with a wooden steeple. My husband has restored the steeple and done restoration work on the buildings for years. The simple Hawaiian service is so beautiful as we sang hymns in English and some in Hawaiian following our books. The message of love was clearly expressed, Christmas being the most wonderful time of year.

After the service the forty or so of us when on to the hall for a truly authentic Hawaiian meal. Delicious squid luau, lomilomi salmon, poi, chicken long rice, kalua pig, sweet Potatoe, pumpkin, ahi poke, and an array of desserts were served. It's a pot luck so Ono! The people are so sweet and I couldn't miss this day in the country on Maui.
It's raining now Up-Country and we're all cozy enjoying the spirit of Christmas. I'm listening to Jewel singing O Holy Night and I just love it.

Hope you're all having a wonderful evening, wherever you are on the planet.

Aloha
Mele Kalikimaka
